The Alternatives to Abortion Program offers services to help women carry their unborn child to term instead of having an abortion. This program also helps support women after making this choice by finding resources to help with caring for a child or by helping women learn more about adoption, if they choose.

How You Can Get Help with Housing and Utilities

Beginning parenthood is often an unfamiliar and stressful journey. You likely have many questions–and concerns–about how to find the essentials and prepare for raising a child.

It’s best to begin preparations for a new baby as soon as possible. You don’t want to feel stressed and overwhelmed while caring for a newborn. Missouri’s Alternatives to Abortion Program can help you find resources for needs like housing and utilities through our providers.

The Importance of Safe Housing

You’ve likely had to consider much while anticipating your child’s birth. From newborn clothes to food, the list can seem never ending.

Providing your child with a safe, stable environment will help them grow and flourish. Many adults describe their childhood home when talking about past experiences. Their home is where your child should feel secure, discover new things, and find stability.

It can be challenging to secure safe housing, especially if you struggle financially or are a single parent. But it’s not impossible to find housing during this time—you may just need extra support.

What Are Utilities?

Utilities are essential for daily life. Utility costs cover heating, cooling, electricity, trash pickup, and more. If you’ve lived in an apartment before, you likely had an additional cost for these services.

While utilities are necessary for anyone, they’re essential for a child. Your child deserves access to these things and has a right to live in a comfortable environment. And so do you!

Where to Find Support

You are eligible for the A2A program if you meet the following requirements

  • Want to carry your unborn child to term instead of having an abortion
  • Are a United States resident who lives in Missouri
  • Make less than 185% of the federal poverty level based on your latest tax filing

Through our program, you can find providers who assist with housing and utilities in your area. These services are available during pregnancy and through your child’s first birthday.

Enter your zip code on our Find Support page to find resources for housing and utilities. Many organizations in Missouri are ready to help you provide a safe home for your child.
